Q: Why do we need sleep?

  1. As busy college students, we can be booked with classes, homework, and extracurricular activities throughout the day and night! In the midst of many commitments, sleep can easily be delegated to the bottom of our list of priorities.  It is important to remember, however, how important sleep truly is to our health, grades, moods, and overall wellbeing!
  1. Feel less hungry

Sleep deficiency can lead to increased weight gain and obesity. Sleep maintains balance between hormones associated with hunger, and insufficient sleep leads to high levels of hormones making you feel hungrier than when well rested.

  1. Prevent illnesses and chronic disease

Sleep is necessary for a strong immune system. By sleeping you are better able to fight those common infections spreading around college campuses. Inadequate sleep is additionally associated with worsening lung and heart disease, as well as high blood pressure.

  1. Boost your GPA

Lack of sleep can negatively impact sleep, and cramming at the last minute can be counterproductive.  Academic success relies upon concentration, alertness, and recall, which are abilities all supported by sleeping well!
